The women's doubles draw at the Opendoor Pickleball World Championships produced its biggest surprise on Semifinal Saturday — and it was not even close.

An upset in straight games

Sofia Sewing and Catherine Parenteau beat Kate Fahey and Tina Pisnik 11-5, 11-5. Fahey and Pisnik had been one of the week's form teams, beating Mari Humberg and Milan Rane 12-10, 11-9 in a tight quarterfinal, but Sewing and Parenteau gave them no room at all on Saturday, winning both games by the same clear margin.

Sewing and Parenteau had already posted a statement win in the quarterfinals, beating Tyra Black and Jorja Johnson 11-7, 11-3. Now they are one win from a world title.

Bright and Waters keep rolling

The other semifinal went the way most people expected. Anna Bright and Anna Leigh Waters beat Rachel Rohrabacher and Parris Todd 11-3, 11-5 to reach Sunday's final. Bright and Waters have been dominant all week: they beat Chao Yi Wang and Layne Sleeth 11-1, 11-4 in the quarterfinals and gave up just one point across two games in their round-of-32 match.

Rohrabacher and Todd reached the last four by beating Brooke Buckner and Kaitlyn Christian 12-10, 11-7 in the quarters. They will play Fahey and Pisnik for bronze on Sunday.

Sunday's final, then, is a contrast: the sport's most decorated women's doubles team of the moment against the pair that has knocked out two big names in back-to-back rounds. Sewing and Parenteau have already shown they can beat a top team in straight games at this event — doing it twice in two days, against Bright and Waters, is the tallest order in women's pickleball. Waters, meanwhile, is playing in all three of her finals on the same day. If doubles is your game too, watch for the soft game at the kitchen line in this one — and check our breakdown of common dinking mistakes before your next match.

Pickleball words, in plain English

Players throw these words around like everyone knows them. Here is what each one actually means.

Kitchen
The 7-foot zone right at the net. You can stand in it, but you can't hit the ball out of the air while you're there.
Dink
A soft, gentle shot that just clears the net and lands in the kitchen. It forces the other side to hit up, not down.
Third-shot drop
Your team's first shot after the serve and return. Hit it soft so it drops into the kitchen — that lets you walk up to the net.
Reset
When a hard shot comes at you, you block it softly into the kitchen instead of swinging back. It slows the point down and saves you.
Drive
A hard, fast shot hit low over the net. The opposite of a dink.
Pop-up
A ball you hit too high by accident. It hangs in the air, and the other side gets to smash it. Most points at low levels end this way.
Speed up
To suddenly hit the ball hard and fast on purpose, to rush the other side before they're ready.
Volley
Hitting the ball out of the air before it bounces.
